# Moneywise.co.ke — Tools Catalog & Interactivity Spec

**Prepared:** 10 June 2026 · Companion to SITE-REVIEW.md and STRUCTURE-PLAN.md

**Design principle (non-negotiable):** Nothing on this site may feel like an exam, a form, or a bank brochure. Every tool is a conversation; every assessment is a journey with a reveal at the end; every calculator answers in real time. If a screen could appear in a school test or a KRA portal, redesign it.

---

## Part 1 — Interaction design rules

### Assessments (the anti-exam pattern)

1. **One question per screen.** Full-screen card, big friendly type, navy on white with sky-blue accents. Never a scrolling list of 20 questions.
2. **Tap, don't type.** Answers are visual cards with icons/illustrations, sliders, this-or-that swipes, emoji scales ("How does checking your bank balance make you feel? 😀 😐 😬 🙈"). Typing only where unavoidable (name at the end).
3. **Progress that motivates:** a progress bar that fills with the coin icon from the logo, plus encouraging micro-copy at milestones ("Halfway there — you're doing great 👏🏾").
4. **Conversational voice, Kenyan warmth.** Questions phrased the way Rina speaks — "Salary imeingia. What happens in the first 48 hours?" — never "Question 7: Select the option that best describes…".
5. **Branching logic.** Answers shape later questions (someone with no debt never sees debt questions). Feels personal, shortens the journey.
6. **Instant micro-feedback** between sections: "Interesting… you're telling us security matters to you 👀" — builds anticipation for the reveal.
7. **The reveal, not "results."** Animated build-up to a visual identity card: personality label with custom illustration (the Leader Development "lava label" pattern), score gauge that sweeps up, radar/spider chart of dimensions. Teaser shown free; **email unlocks the full report** — capture after value, never before.
8. **Shareable result cards** (auto-generated image, branded navy/sky-blue): "I'm a Guardian Saver 🛡️ — what's your money personality?" Social sharing is the organic growth engine.
9. **Saved to dashboard, retakeable** after a cooldown, with "then vs now" progress comparison.

### Calculators & planners (live, not submit-button)

1. **Sliders and steppers, zero "Calculate" buttons.** Drag the slider, watch the chart move in the same frame. KES-formatted, locale-aware (KES / USD / GBP for diaspora).
2. **Every number becomes a picture:** payoff timelines as animated horizons, compound growth as a racing line chart, budgets as interactive donuts you drag to rebalance.
3. **Outcome-first framing:** not "your monthly contribution is X" but "🎉 You could own that home by March 2031 — here's the path."
4. **Mobile-first, thumb-reachable.** Most traffic is Kenyan mobile; controls live in the bottom half of the screen.
5. **Save/email/PDF my plan** → account creation → dashboard → reminder nudges (phase 2 alerts the meeting asked for).

### Courses & content

1. Video lessons broken by **interactive checkpoints**: swipe-card knowledge checks, drag-to-sort exercises, "try the tool now" embeds of the calculators inside lessons.
2. **Progress, streaks, badges:** module completion rings, a streak counter, milestone confetti, certificate share-card at completion.
3. Blog guides get **interactive ingredients**: the debt guide embeds the payoff planner; the budgeting article embeds the budget builder.

### Sitewide

- Micro-animations on scroll (subtle — AOS-style fade/rise, never circus).
- The homepage "What do you need help with today?" tiles respond with hover/tap states and lead straight into a tool, not a wall of text.
- Sound off, speed on: all interactivity must keep LCP fast — animate with CSS/JS on lightweight components, not heavy libraries.

## Part 2 — The Tools Catalog

### A. From the meeting (committed scope)

| # | Tool | What it does | Interactive form | Access | Phase |
|---|------|--------------|------------------|--------|-------|
| 1 | **Financial Health Check** ⭐ flagship lead-gen | The 20-question assessment (Rina to share) scoring overall financial wellness; replaces the tool lost with the old vendor | Multistep cards → animated score gauge (0–100) + dimension radar (saving, debt, protection, investing) → personalized next steps | Free, email unlocks full report | 1 |
| 2 | **Money Personality Test** | Adapted Olivia Mellan typology, localized; "who are you with money?" | This-or-that swipes + emoji scales → illustrated personality card (e.g. The Hustler, The Guardian, The Dreamer — Kenyanized names) + strengths/blind spots + shareable card | Free teaser / full report behind email | 1.5 (copyright) |
| 3 | **Values Clarification Exercise** | Surfaces core values that should drive money decisions; foundation of the Money-Wise method | Card-sort: drag values into Keep/Release piles across rounds until top 5 remain → values wheel graphic → "your money, aligned" report | Free or bundled into courses | 1.5 (copyright) |
| 4 | **Wealth & Goals Calculator** | The Excel tool digitized: set life goals (home, retirement, wedding, education), get monthly investment needed per goal | Goal cards with icons → sliders for amount/timeline → live "path to your goal" chart, all goals stacked on one timeline view → save to dashboard + reminder alerts | Free basic / full plan for members | 2 (basic in 1.5) |
| 5 | **Budget Builder** | Customized budgeting tool (replacing generic free templates) | Drag-to-rebalance donut: income in, drag category slices, instant surplus/deficit feedback, 50/30/20 presets adapted to Kenyan reality (black tax, chama contributions as first-class categories) | Free lite / premium version with tracking | 1 (lite), 2 (tracking) |
| 6 | **Investor Profile Assessment** | Rina's FIB investor assessment, reclaimed as a Money-Wise product: risk tolerance + investor readiness | Scenario-based questions ("Markets drop 20%. You…") with illustrated choices → investor type card → matched to the investment options buffet (ties directly to the referral-commission revenue engine) | Free, gated report | 1.5 |

### B. Recommended additions (Kenya/Africa pain-point driven)

| # | Tool | What it does | Why it earns its place | Phase |
|---|------|--------------|------------------------|-------|
| 7 | **Debt Payoff Planner** | List debts (M-Shwari, Fuliza, Tala, SACCO, credit card, family), choose snowball vs avalanche, see debt-free date | #1 question they receive; turns the debt guide into an experience. Animated timeline shows the debt-free date moving closer as you adjust the monthly amount. CRB-blacklist help content attaches here | 1 |
| 8 | **True Cost of a Loan Calculator** | Reveals total interest + effective APR of mobile loans and bank loans before you borrow | Mobile-loan debt is the meeting's named enemy; a "Fuliza for a year actually costs you…" reveal is highly shareable and very on-mission | 1 |
| 9 | **Emergency Fund Calculator** | "How many months could you survive?" → target fund + monthly plan to get there | Simple, 60-second win; perfect first interaction; feeds the savings modules | 1 |
| 10 | **Compound Growth Visualizer** ("What could KES 5,000/month become?") | Slider for monthly amount, years, return rate → racing line chart, with "start now vs start in 5 years" dual-line drama | The single best motivation-to-invest widget; embeds in courses and blog posts | 1 |
| 11 | **Retirement Readiness Check** | Quick assessment + calculator: NSSF/pension-aware, "will you join the 80% retiring poor?" → readiness score + catch-up plan | Directly weaponizes the site's own headline statistic into action instead of fear | 1.5 |
| 12 | **Financial Freedom Number** | Interactive: lifestyle sliders (rent, travel, school fees…) → "your freedom number" + the passive income needed | Aspirational, shareable, on-brand with "financial freedom" language | 1.5 |
| 13 | **School Fees Planner** | Plan fees per child per stage (kindergarten → university), see the saving/investing plan | Named in the meeting's debt examples (parents overcommitting to private schools); deeply Kenyan pain point no US tool serves | 2 |
| 14 | **Chama Health Check** | Assessment for investment groups: governance, records, goals, legal structure → group score + fix-list | Chamas are a massive Kenyan vehicle (mentioned in the meeting); opens group/corporate funnels; nothing like it exists | 2 |
| 15 | **Couples Money Quiz** | Both partners take it separately → compatibility/clash report → conversation starters | Ties to Marriage Built to Last book + the "spouse sabotaging finances" content; two emails captured per quiz 😉 | 2 |
| 16 | **Diaspora Investment Trust-Check** | Interactive checklist/scorecard: vet a Kenyan investment opportunity or land deal from abroad (title search? escrow? who controls funds?) → risk score | Trust is the diaspora segment's #1 pain (the "buy me land" scam); this is the segment's flagship hook | 1.5 |
| 17 | **Remittance → Investment Planner** | "You send KES X home monthly. Here's what redirecting 20% into investments becomes in 10 years" — currency-aware (USD/GBP/EUR → KES) | Converts the diaspora's existing habit into the investing journey; pairs with cross-border content | 2 |
| 18 | **Money Market Fund Comparator** | Compare partner MMFs (rates, fees, minimums, payout terms) side by side, filter by goal | Monetization bridge: education → informed choice → referral commission, transparently. The "buffet" Rina described, made tangible | 2 |
| 19 | **Net Worth Tracker** | Assets vs liabilities snapshot with quarterly re-check nudges and a progress line | The dashboard's retention loop — the reason users come back monthly | 2 |
| 20 | **"Where Does My Money Go?" 5-Day Challenge** | Gamified micro-challenge: log spending for 5 days via quick taps, get a spending personality reveal | Habit-forming, WhatsApp-shareable, feeds Budget Builder adoption; the "fun" the meeting asked for | 2 |

### C. Catalog logic

- **Phase 1 ships six interactive pieces** (1, 5-lite, 7, 8, 9, 10) plus the Financial Health Check as the flagship — enough that "Tools" is a destination at launch, not a promise.
- **Every tool ends with a bridge:** result → recommended module/course → (where relevant) the investment buffet → coaching prompt. No dead ends, mirroring the Leader Development loop.
- **Free vs paid:** assessments and quick calculators are free lead-gen; depth is the product (full reports, saved plans, tracking, reminders, course bundles are paid/membership).
- **Each tool is embeddable** as a component so it can live inside course lessons, blog guides, and journey pages — build once, surface everywhere.

## Part 3 — Per-tool anti-exam checklist (apply to every build)

- [ ] One thing per screen; zero scrolling question lists
- [ ] All answers tappable/draggable; typing only for name/email at the end
- [ ] Progress indicator + encouraging micro-copy
- [ ] Branching so no one sees irrelevant questions
- [ ] Animated, visual reveal (gauge/card/chart) — never a plain score
- [ ] Email asked AFTER the teaser result, framed as "send me my full report"
- [ ] Shareable branded result card
- [ ] Result saved to dashboard + clear next-step bridge
- [ ] Works one-handed on a mid-range Android on 3G
- [ ] Copy passes the "would Rina say it like this on YouTube?" test
